Glasgow Women’s Aid would like to send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Holly Newton. Holly’s case shows just how crucial it is to recognise and support victims, especially those under 16, who often fall through the cracks in the legal system.

We have long recognised the increase in young women contacting our services for support. Our Enough!! Project was developed to support young women age 13-21 dealing with abuse within their own relationships.

We welcome the review of the law concerning the classification of domestic abuse victims, particularly for those aged 16 and younger. This change is vital to ensure that all victims get the help and justice they deserve, no matter their age.

Our legal system must reflect the reality that young people can also find themselves in abusive relationships and need protection and support.
