What is Domestic Abuse?

Domestic abuse is not just hitting. It can also be:

Controlling who you see or what you do.

Taking your money or stopping you from working.

Making you feel scared with threats or shouting.

Forcing you to have sex when you don't want to.

Hurting your children or pets.

If this is happening to you, it is not your fault. You are not alone.

Urgent Support.

If you require urgent support or you feel that you may be in danger, please call 999.

If you need to call 999 but can’t speak due to your circumstances or it would put yourself in more danger you can use the Silent Solution.
The Silent Solution allows the operator to know you are in danger. If you listen to the operator’s questions - they may ask you to cough or make a noise or press a button on the phone so they know you are there and listening.
They will then ask you to press ‘55’ on your phone. The operator will be able to make an assessment on what help you need.

You may then be put through to police who will then attempt to communicate with you by asking simple yes and no questions.
Do not call 999 and press ‘55’ immediately, this may not register as a legitimate Silent Solution call.

Pressing ‘55’ will NOT bring emergency services immediately to your location. The police will still need to try and determine your location if you are unable to disclose it.If you can speak or even whisper it is always best to try and let the operator know you location.
